Anthony Petruccelli defeated his other Democratic opponent, Dan Rizzo, in the Democratic primary for who would replace Robert Travaglini (aka "T-Vag") for State Senate. The primary turned out to be the real deal since Republicans couldn't find an opponent.
Raja Mishra of the Globe reported that Petruccelli, currently a representative of East Boston, won 59 percent of the vote according to the latest tallies. The Herald noted that Petruccelli took 85 percent of the vote in the district's Boston areas. Rizzo probably did best in Revere, where he's a city councilor.
Mishra also noted that "Turnout was extremely light." That is an understatement. Bostonist headed to the polls, and the pollworkers were just chilling out with copies of the Herald and some donuts. They looked like they hadn't seen anyone in a while and seemed really happy to see us. We've never had such attention at a polling station!
As we noted yesterday, Petruccelli knows the ropes of the State House, and T-Vag endorsed him, so the transition will likely be smooth.
