Boston Blotter: Security Up at Logan

060307_airport.gif--Yesterday, authorities thwarted a terror plot that targeted a jet fuel pipeline at New York's JFK airport. There's no sign of a link between the JFK Plot and Logan, but Boston displayed its usual swift response to the slightest whiff of terror.

So we're not surprised that Logan boosted security. Here's what's changing: "The stepped-up patrols were inside airport facilities as well as outside gates, said [the director of corporate security for the Massachusetts Port Authority], pointing out that one of the men arrested in the JFK plot was a former airport employee."

--Walid Chahine, the taxi driver in last week's horrible police-chase crash in Somerville, died early this morning. Chahine leaves behind a wife and child.

--Early Saturday morning, another brawl went down in Jamaica Plain - only this time it didn't involve a remote control. Instead, the weapon of choice was a tire iron. Two groups of people got into a shouting match, and the tire iron was brandished. Two suspects escaped, but police later rounded them up.
