Boston Blotter: Getting Caught With Your Pants Down
--A car chase happened in Cambridge last night. WBZ reports, "The chase started in Cambridge when officials spotted the driver of a black Hummer almost hit a police officer as he left the Alewife 'T' station parking lot." This was no ordinary pursuit. One witness described the chase as "insane."
The police learned a lesson after the tragic police-chase deaths in Somerville - they eventually let the guy go on. And it worked out fine because they later tracked him down at his own home. If a perp is dumb enough to start a police chase, then the perp will probably be dumb enough to go a place where the law can find him.
WHDH has a screengrab of the perp. Take a good look at the image. Not only is this guy dumb enough - oops, allegedly dumb enough - to try to outrun the cops and then go back home, but he also got caught with his pants down. Literally.
--A chase ended in a suicide in Revere on Saturday night. During a traffic stop, a passenger jumped out of a car. Police followed on foot, but the unidentified man may have decided he didn't want to be taken alive. He shot himself in the head.
--Unfortunately, the weekend violence didn't stop there. A man suffered "life-threatening" injuries after getting shot in Dorchester. On Saturday night in Roxbury, a car hit someone riding a bicycle, leaving the rider in critical condition. To make matters worse, it was a hit and run, and the driver is still at large.
--Another hit and run in Canton left two people who were trying to cross 128 seriously injured and stranded by the side of the road for hours. The Herald has a harrowing account of what Jeffrey Corneille and Amelia Rivera went through because they couldn't move their legs to get help. Someone finally spotted them and called help.
--Talk about "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" material. A crew of teenagers attacked a man in the South End on Saturday night. According to the BPD News Report, "Victim told officers that the kids threw him to the ground and demanded his wallet." Police identified and caught the perps as they were leaving the scene. Another beating happened in Lowell in which some boneheads beat on a man just because he was gay.
--In Mattapan yesterday morning, someone came across a dead body in the woods, but investigators are trying to find out how that body ended up over there.
--Two men were shot in Worcester on Saturday night. One died, and the other is in serious condition. Police think that a neighborhood fight got out of hand.
All charges alleged until proven under law. Screengrab from WHDH.
