--Lowe's Home Improvement stores have been getting a heap of negative publicity. First, their banner on the Boston Globe website's home page obscured the big news that legislators voted down the gay marriage ban. (See Adam and Spatch's appropriate sarcasm regarding these obtrusive Internet ads.)
But it gets worse. The Lowe's brass is probably cringing at the news that a shootout erupted at the Danvers Lowe's last night. Imagine, you're at Lowe's, you're picking up a faucet or some nails or whatever, and then bullets start flying.
Two police detectives tried to arrest Todd Scioli for drugs in the parking lot. Scioli tried to flee in his SUV, dragging the detectives and prompting them to open fire. They got in 10 rounds. But that didn't stop Scioli – he tried to escape, but the police caught him.
--Lowe's wasn't the only crazy place in town on Wednesday. The BPD released a long list of incidents. Three people were busted for doing drugs in a toilet at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Two search warrants led to drug busts, one in West Roxbury and another in Roxbury. And then a woman was mugged and punched in the face on Chestnut Hill Avenue.
--Carol Silva, the Wig Lady who swindled her way through the DC area and who was eventually arrested in Boston, pled guilty yesterday to bank fraud and identity theft.
--From the DA's office: A creep who gave a cell phone to a 12-year-old in 2004 so she could send him pictures of her naked was sentenced to 4 years in prison yesterday. Kenneth Hall must also register as a sex offender.
--Also from the DA: The case of Jason Meeks resulted in a mistrial. Meeks and his sister, if you will recall, got in trouble for witness tampering. DA Daniel Conley said in a statement, "We have every intention of re-trying this defendant at the earliest opportunity."
