Sports Redux: Sox End Up On Wrong End of Seattle See-Saw

redsoxlogo.JPGWell, the Red Sox got to Felix Hernandez. That's the good news.

Unfortunately, the Mariners got to Kason Gabbard, and really got to relievers Manny Delcarmen and Javier Lopez, and won a back-and-forth ballgame 8-7. Lopez, in particular, was victimized by a Richie Sexson home run in the sixth from which they never recovered.

Manny got the day off, and his replacement (Eric Hinske) homered, so that's going according to plan. Julio Lugo got the day off, too, and his replacement (Alex Cora) got a hit, so that was an unexpected bonus from the SS position. Time to pick it up, Julio!

The Sox will try to salvage a game in the series this afternoon, as Daisuke Matsuzaka (Daisuke vs. Ichiro? Think this one's on TV over there?) goes against Ryan Feierabend before the Local Nine come home from this ridiculous road trip. Assuming MLB doesn't want them to swing by Winnipeg or Mexicali before it's all said and done.

The Celtics still haven't traded the #5 pick for Ted Scalabrine and a bag of magic beans yet, so we won't say too much for fear of jinxing things.

Finally, if you're like us and don't know a thing about pro wrestling, you might not know/care what happened this weekend. Chris Benoit, a fan favorite and (it was thought) all-around good guy, apparently allegedly killed his wife and young son before taking his own life. Watching this develop on certain Internet message boards was really something; first, everyone thought it was a stunt (on the heels of the fake death of Vince McMahon), then even the biggest holdouts realized that even the WWE wouldn't be crass enough to pull a stunt involving an entire family's death. Then came the shock and surprise; one person explained to non-fans that this was the WWE equivalent of Derek Jeter snapping and going on a murder spree. Now the investigation is leading to Benoit's connection with steroid dealers. O RLY? Whatever happened, it's a horrible mess, and a poignant, vital lesson about something or other. It's that confusing.
