Boston Blotter: Rep of Carnies Gets Worse, If That's Possible
--As if carnies didn't have a shady enough reputation, a carnival in Hyannis hired a convicted sex offender. Good job with the background checks, folks. The guy is 24 years old and has 52 outstanding warrants. With all that, how did he have time for the carnival?
--More on the teenager shot on the train – like the stabbings at Back Bay, we're wondering why police weren't able to catch the perps. Even if people were running all over the place, surely there were enough police to catch someone running off in suspicious fashion.
They did detain and cuff people, which probably made innocent bystanders even more irate. Are there police drills for this sort of thing?
One relative of the victim asserted that the shooting was random, but the MBTA transit police say otherwise. It doesn't really matter. It scares the hell out of commuters.
One woman told the Metro that the T must not be doing something right if the shooters were able to be so brazen: "If someone is willing to shoot someone in the middle of the day, I don't think he's scared of the police here now."
--There's a raging granny in Randolph who has plenty to be pissed about. The grandmother of Ezekiel Cuthbert, who was allegedly shot and killed in Randolph by Malcolm Carnes, was angry that Carnes' lawyer kept Carnes hidden from view, and she called the judge on it right in the middle of the courtroom.
Well, there's a good reason the guy was kept from view - so raging granny and the rest of Cuthbert's family couldn't get at Carnes and kick his ass. There's the little matter that Carnes is innocent until proven under law. But we admire anyone who's willing to speak out that way.
--Speaking of people whose ass would be in danger of getting beaten by a lot of families if his ass weren't in jail, Javier Morales, the driver who led the police chase that killed The Mark frontman Paul Farris and cabdriver Walid Chahine, was indicted on manslaughter and motor vehicle homicide. Morales pleaded not guilty.
All charges alleged until proven under law. VHS cover of Carny, with Gary Busey on the left as a clown. That scares the hell out of us.
