Boston Blotter: The Sweet Tooth Robber Is Still at Large

063007_sweet_tooth.jpg--A one-man robbery wave is rolling through the city. A guy is walking into stores, especially sweet shoppes, and holding them up. Between April 17 and June 26, the suspect has held up 16 businesses.

This is the same guy who held up the Yankee Candle - and Truly Jorg's and the Lindt Chocolate Shope and more. Clearly the guy thinks in terms of quantity, not quality. How much cash can he pick up at any one time from a register at a chain store?

--Speaking of people police are looking for, the BPD released surveillance photos of the two men who shot another man on an Orange Line train at Ruggles. A small problem - the men look like a whole lot of other men in Boston. They're young and black. One of them chose to make the shooting a more festive occasion and adorned himself with bling. So how is a surveillance camera photo going to help?

We also noticed that the Wanted poster doesn't mention the BPD's new text-a-tip program. So we'll help 'em out. You can text the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).

--If you have an outstanding warrant, you might not want to draw attention to yourself. But that's what Matthew Allen of Roxbury did this morning. He didn't yield to pedestrians trying to cross Warren Street, and the BPD noticed. Another guy, Trevis Catron, also got himself noticed early this morning by drawing the wrong way on Shawmut and having empty beer cans in the car.

--One of the men who got in a fight at a house party and allegedly killed Chiara Levin with a stray bullet went to court today. Casimiro Barros was charged with one count of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and first-degree murder. Manuel Andrade wasn't arraigned "because of difficulty getting Andrade from his secure location to court."

--Everybody out of the pool! In West Boylston,
someone got a little chlorine-happy
and dumped a load of it in a pool. And too much chlorine is too much of a good thing. Twenty-one kids and two adults wound up in the hospital with itchy eyes and skin.

The Wanted poster doesn't mention the BPD's text-a-tip program because it isn't a BPD poster. The poster was put out by the MBTA Police, a completely different organization.
