-- Some people just won't take no for an answer: after police ordered three people to leave an apartment in South Boston at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning, all three were back about an hour later. So were police. The suspects assured police that the leasee, "Rick," had given them permission to be there. Turns out that "Rick" doesn't live there - or, at least, isn't on the lease. David McCarthy, 40, and Pauline Zukowski, 42, both of South Boston were arrested and charged with unarmed breaking and entering. Patrick Joyce, 41, of Roslindale, was charged with breaking and enterting a building.
-- A woman walking on Victory Road in Dorchester early Monday morning reported to police that she saw an elderly woman almost attacked by an unleashed bullmastiff dog. While the woman was calling, a man who said he owned the offending canine yelled at her to mind her own business. Surprising to no one, neither man nor dog stuck around for the cops to arrive.
-- Antonio Pickens, 44, is in a coma with massive injuries to his head and body today, after police say the firefighter was struck by a drunk driver at the scene of a car accident in Milton on Saturday night. The man charged with the drunken driving offense (his third), was arraigned in Quincy District Court today. His lawyer describes the incident as a "tragic accident."
-- Outside of our normal region, but important to mention: at least two people died this morning in a North Conway, N.H. shooting. The AP quotes a senior assistant attorney general as stating that there may be another body stemming from the incident, which appears to have begun at an Army-Navy store in town. People were taken into custody - there is no official word on whether the male suspect is among them.
