-- Boston Police's news blotter doesn't include the words "Bonbon Bandit" or "Sweet Tooth Robber" in the public safety notification it posted yesterday, but those who have been following the string of robberies at sweet shoppes (and a Yankee Candle) can add another crime to the list. The man seen on many a security camera as of late reportedly held up City Convenience on Albany Street at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, brandishing a knife and getting away with cash.
Boston Police said Friday that 18 reported robberies in Boston between April and July might be linked as this guy's string of crimes. They're urging folks to contact them and reposted things to do during a robbery (unfortunately, they seemed to have forgotten "freak out as soon as the guy leaves"). -- Maybe it's just us, but if someone walked up to us and said, "Come here and I'll show you something," our inner cynic would prompt us to expect a bad turn of events. A guy didn't think the same way back in June, when he followed a woman and was then held up by a big guy with a knife. The good news? He spotted them a couple of weeks later and police were able to arrest the Bonnie and Clyde types. Giselle Murphy, 25, of Dorchester, and Jerome Young, 34, of Dorchester, were arrested and charged with Armed Robbery.
