Just over a week ago the Globe brought us the discouraging story that Mitt Romeny used to take the Romney family vacations with their pet strapped atop the family station wagon back in the 80's. The tales of flip-flopping positions on contentious political issues haven't grabbed the spotlight quite as well as poor treatment of the family dog.
Politicians have been famous for their pets, Nixon had Checkers and Clinton had Socks and a whole lot of domesticated animals have made their home in the Whitehouse before and after. As Mitt Romney makes his bid to trade his status as former governor of Massachusetts for the 1600 Pennsylvania Ave address the talk of Seamus the Romney family dog continues to pull in the headlines. Over the last week the press has given much attention to the Globe story – but beyond the story is, now, a blog. A web savvy individual has set up dogsagainstromney.blogspot.com, written by Rusty (a Seamus supporter). A website against the republican candidate for president written from the sole position that Romney was mean to poor Seamus the dog when he strapped him to the roof as they set out for family vacations. Of course there have been statements issued from the Romney camp refuting any claims of animal cruelty (Seamus loved it!) in response to the story, but the fact remains: you can't make this stuff up.
