The Declarative Lamp Project

iamnotabombamalamp.jpgRees Shad and Rebecca Stern have created a lamp that will help Boston Police breathe easy – well, if they understand the language. The lamps they've created run a 20 minute cycle of declaratives that "This is not a bomb" in twelve languages at dusk, power down, and ready themselves for the next night's performance. From Rees Shad's narration on the video and statement posted on their website: " My first thought upon hearing about the Boston scare was that our fears had gotten the best of us. My next thought was that I needed to address this in my work as an electronic installation artist." Our first thought was "crap, what an embarrassment" our next thought was "oh, man, when will the ridicule end. Apparently it's worth an art installation five months after the great Aqua Teen scare of 2007. It's funny. Creative. Perfect for the Boston Public Gardens.

Thanks to Make for the tip, and the artists for posting wonderful images posted on their Flickr stream
