Developing: Is The King Dead?

butch.jpgRumors are flying today about the possible death of Mr. Butch (Harold Madison, Jr.), the former "King of Kenmore Square" exiled to Allston in the mid-1990s. According to the unconfirmed stories reported on message boards today, the homeless man/local musicians/unofficial face of Boston was riding on a scooter this morning when he was involved in a collision with a car. His Wikipedia and MySpace have already been updated to announce the news.

Bostonist contacted Boston Police to find out what was going on, and here's the latest: there was an accident on Cambridge street earlier today and a man was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital. There is no official confirmation about the nature of the accident, names involved or status on the man who was hospitalized, according to a BPD spokeswoman.

That said, Bostonist was told during a phone conversation with District D-14, the district overseeing the area, that a fatality was involved with the accident.

We'll be updating when more information becomes available. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Posters on Lemmingtrail are reporting that there were two separate accidents, that the fatality on Cambridge Street did not involve Mr. Butch. That said, the report states that he was involved in an accident on his Vespa today and that he is in intensive care at Brigham and Women's.

UPDATE 2: According to a spokeswoman for Brigham and Women's, Harold Madison was transported to the hospital today, but there is no additional official comment about his status. Thanks to commenters for passing along word (see the comments for those), but we're continuing to pursue and get official word from hosptial/police officials.
