And in This Corner …: Ed Davis Versus Dan Conley

ed-davis-mustache-small.jpg--So Commish Ed Davis reorganized the police department over the weekend, shuffling people around and, according to the Globe eliminating some of the tensions distracting the department from solving crimes. Davis said he wanted "people who would work together" in charge.

But a new feud may have sprung up instead. Suffolk County DA Dan Conley said publicly that he isn't happy at all with the changes within the BPD. Conley isn't happy because Ed Davis didn't talk to him first, and, as the DA, he definitely has a stake in Davis' decisions.

071607_daconley.jpgConley is especially upset that Thomas Lee is replacing the former head of homicide because he doesn't think Lee has the chops. Conley said, "And [Davis] says that represents progress? I don't think so."

Davis is apparently ready for Conley to bring it. He retorted on the record, "I've never heard anything so ridiculous in my life."

Sounds like it's on, eh? We're not in the backrooms when promotions and demotions are made, and the point isn't to take sides, but it seems that public squabbling as a result of these decisions isn't getting any crimes solved. With a 9-year-old getting shot last night (details to come in the Blotter), would it be a good idea to just set the egos aside? Everybody wants the same thing here, right?

We thought it was nifty when Conley answered questions from Universal Hub readers. Following the dustup with Davis, we wonder if there will be another round, and we'd like to ask: "So, how do you really feel about the police commissioner?"

Our best picture of Ed Davis up top, plus Dan Conley.
