Former Massachusetts governor and Republican presidential aspirant Mitt Romney is in a full-scale Battle Royale with former Harvard hotshot Democrat presidential aspirant Barack Obama about the subject of sex.
In the Atlantic piece Obama, Romney, and Sex, Sex, Sex, which appears to be titled for maximum search-engine optimization, Marc Ambinder writes about Romney's "shock" at Obama's proposal to teach sex-ed in kindergarten.
Romney said, "I heard a quote today from Sen. Barack Obama which puzzled me. He said that we should have sex education in kindergarten. I'm not kidding you. And I scratched my head when I heard that. How much sex education ought to be age appropriate for a five year old? In my view, zero."
ABC News has more of Romney's thoughts on sex ed: "Instead of teaching about sex education in kindergarten to 5-year-olds let's clean up the ocean of filth, the cesspool in which our children are swimming."
We're not sure what Romney thinks sex ed is. Telling a kid where babies come from or what happens when you put Tab A into Slot B isn't the same as telling them which channel Skinimax is on. We'd like to know where Romney learned about sex. He must have learned about it some place if he and Ann Romney had the five brothers!
Regarding the ocean of "filth," everyone's definition of "filth" is relative, and, if he really wants to go after filth in the media – we assume that's what he's getting at – then he might want to go after the big businesses who get rich off the simple fact that sex sells. But Romney's not about to go messing with potential sources of campaign cash.
As a matter of fact, Romney is in trouble with his conservative backers for letting Marriott Hotels show pay-per-view porn when he was on the board of directors between 1992 and 2001.
