Boston Blotter: "If you are dumb enough to take a gun in your carry-on ..."
--Some alleged bonehead from North Carolina got arrested after he tried to take a loaded gun on a plane at Logan. The lawyer for John C. Megelich says the guy didn't realize he had it in his bag. We don't know how you wouldn't notice a loaded gun.
The DA's Office released some more details. Megelich, who was flying from Boston to Detroit, dared to put the gun through security in his briefcase, and security was not happy to find a "Colt Mk IV .380 caliber semiautomatic handgun loaded with five rounds of ammunition." Perhaps Megelich had a problem with Detroit?
But we're loving what a Massport rep had to say about the incident: "If you are dumb enough to take a gun in your carry-on, we're smart enough to find it."
A local blogger has already joked that Megelich is about to get signed by the Knicks. We'd also like to add that former Celtic Sebastian Telfair, who is a little gun-happy himself, has no comment.
--On Monday morning, truck driver Adam Lane broke into a home in Chelmsford. He made for a terrifying sight, according to Chelmford's deputy chief: "He was dressed in black head-to-toe with a mask. He was wearing gloves. He was in possession of two very large hunting knives."
The owners, who didn't know their black-clad attacker, managed to fight Lane off, and police arrived in time to catch him. But it was a harrowing time for them. Lane held a teenage girl with a knife and stabbed an unidentified family member in the hands.
--More on Raymond Epps, the man accused of raping a 67-year-old woman in the South End. He lived in the same building as his alleged victim, and he told her during the attack, "You shouldn't have left the door open downstairs."
Yesterday, Epps pled not guilty to the crime. The prosecutors say they have a DNA match, and he got out of prison in June for breaking and entering.
All charges - including those of being a bonehead - alleged until proven under law. Image of a happy airport screener from the TSA. Screeners are not happy when you forget to take guns out of your briefcases.
