NESN starts airing "Sox Appeal" tomorrow night after the Red Sox – Orioles game. The show follows one person as he or she mingles with three other people during a game, and the show's website leers, "There's more than one way to score at a Red Sox game!"
Well, maybe, if the thought of peanuts, beer, fans who forgot to wear deodorant, and brawling gets you hot, then this is your kind of show.
You may have forgotten the show existed, actually, because it is airing so late in the season. How long does it take to edit an episode, especially when you're talking quickie reality-television production? Then again, the NESN announcers kept reminding viewers that the Sox Appeal shooting was going on while people were trying to watch the game.
The New York Times did a puffy publicity piece on the show. They focused on a Garrett Lucash, a figure skater and Red Sox lover, who discovers that his date is a Yankees fan. (Gee, you didn't see that setup coming a mile away, did you?) During that date, the author notes that someone tosses a peanut at her, but that might have been a sloppy Red Sox fan pissed that the Sox Appeal hurrah was getting in the way of the game.
The NYT piece also mentions that players will be offering dating advice. Given some players' batting averages when it comes to love, will that advice be helpful? And do you really want romantic advice from Manny Ramirez? We'll take hair-care tips, but not dating tips, thanks.
