Boston Blotter: Born to Be Wild

080107_hells_angels.jpg--After a lengthy undercover operation called "Operation Roadkill," the feds took down 15 alleged members of the Outlaws, a biker gang based in Taunton. In the raid, they picked up large quantities of drugs and, as Boston NOW gleefully noted, a stripper pole. We're not sure how the feds took the stripper pole from the house without leaving significant damage behind, but, by golly, the feds were going to take that stripper pole as evidence!

The feds wanted the Outlaws because they are constantly warring with the Hell's Angels, and they are accused of distributing drugs, including marijuana and cocaine.

While reading about this bust, we discovered that bikers are just as creative as pimps when it comes to their nicknames. One of them, dubbed a "regional enforcer" by the Globe, went by the name of "Clothesline."

--Despite an occurrence of high-profile crimes, gun crime is down in Roxbury, Mattapan, and Dorchester. The stats suggest that the increase in police patrols has actually worked. Michele McPhee sums up, "All told, some 167 people have been shot in the city this year, down from 239 during the same period last year."

But the Globe's article on the stats points out that a decline in crime doesn't mean too much if it's one of your family members, friends, or neighbors who's been shot. One woman said, "My boyfriend got stabbed the other day because he was wearing blue. They mistook him for somebody else."

--Possible sexual harassment may have taken place at Polcari's Restaurant in Saugus. Actually, if the charges are true, then "skanky goings-on" might be a better term than "sexual harassment." A former staffer is accusing her manager of talking dirty to patrons and also of sticking Milky Way bars down his pants and telling kids to "Go Fish." The restaurant is saying it's not true.

--In the "what the hell?!?" department, while trying to evade police, a 17-year-old allegedly threw a trash barrel at police officers. He was arrested for "Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon." It must've been some trash barrel! That said, if the young man has the fortitude to hurl a barrel at officers, couldn't he be channeling his energies elsewhere? Like those World's Strongest Man competitions that air on ESPN2?
