--Early this morning, two people were shot to death in Roxbury. Another person was shot in the fray and somehow managed to get himself to a police station. He is in critical condition. WBZ says sixteen rounds were fired.
--Citizens may have an outlet for keeping an eye on the BPD. Mayor Menino put together a three-member panel that will start looking at complaints from city residents against the BPD.
However, the panel doesn't have a lot of muscle, and the panel is headquartered in the Internal Affairs division – which suggests there's potential for some extra pressure from Internal Affairs. What critics want is a panel that has the same powers as a similar panel in Atlanta: "The Atlanta panel receives complaints directly from citizens, conducts its own investigations, and has the power to subpoena witnesses and documents."
--There's been a burst of break-ins in Brookline. (How's that for alliteration?) People have been taking advantage of windows left open because of the heat. Brookline police asks residents to be on the lookout.
--Watertown police saw something absolutely nutty a few days ago. A guy armed with a broken pool cue started to raise hell in Town Hall. After he shoved a police officer, they had enough and arrested him. No word if he intended to go mano a mano with alleged curling-iron brawler and Watertown councilor Marilyn Devaney.
--We haven't had too many flashers on the Blotter. Maybe it's because it is often too cold to bare all, but 82-year-old David McCracken has stepped up to the plate. While at the Blackstone Valley Celtic Festival in Webster, McCracken's kilt caught a breeze – and people saw everything. WHDH overreacted and called it a "shocking display of Celtic pride."
All charges alleged until proven under law.
