The Porn Debate will be at the Middle East Downstairs, Friday, August 10, at 8:00 pm. Visit the official website for details. And, yes, the site plays that skanky seventies porno music.
Porn star and reality-television presence Ron Jeremy will debate porn anywhere. He raised a ruckus at Simmons and spoke at Northeastern, and now he's taking his show to the Middle East. Apparently there is money to be made in debating porn. Or just being Ron Jeremy.
Jeremy won't be debating with himself, though it wouldn't be surprising if he were. A "porn pastor" named Craig Gross will be joining him. That title is confusing because that sounds like he's spreading the gospel of porn. But he's actually just trying to help people either resist the temptations of the porn business or quit the business through his xxxchurch website. He also has a Porno Puppet that Ron Jeremy hangs out with. Pete the Porno Puppet is a little boy who is trying to "just say no" to pornography. And the way that puppet says "pornography" -- like "por - nawwwww - gra - feeeee" -- might turn you off for life. Pete the Porno Puppet is a touch scary, but the debate sounds like good, clean fun. Sort of.
Chicagoist attended the Porn Debate and finds that it goes into great, gory detail about the industry. The debate doesn't seem to force you to take a stand on porn, but, judging from the review, the debate will get you thinking about whether or not porn has a positive affect on society, particularly whether or not it empowers women.
*Surely we are not the first people to make this pun. Apologies to anyone else who has thought of the obvious.
