Pitching a Tent at the Brattle Theatre
The Camp!Camp! series will run the weekend of today, August 10, through Monday, August 13. Check the Brattle Theatre for showtimes.
The Brattle Theatre is holding its Camp!Camp! weekend. Bring a whistle, short-shorts, a snorkel, and a sleeping bag so you can do whatever it is kids do at camp.
First off is Summercamp!, a documentary about a crew of kids attending Swift Nature Camp in Wisconsin. The filmmakers follow five boys and five girls as they try to make friends and stay on their ADD meds. You can see the trailer on the official Summercamp! site.
The Flaming Lips also offer original music that's definitely going to be a whole lot better than that "Kumbaya" crap. One of the directors of Summercamp!, Bradley Beesley, has made many videos for the band and did their documentary, Fearless Freaks. He wrote, "I have thankfully made my filmmaking career through working with the Flaming Lips." You could say that now they're returning the favor. (We're still waiting for the Flaming Lips musical.)
The usual suspects will accompany Summercamp! - Wet Hot American Summer, Meatballs, Friday the 13th, and Little Darlings. No word yet on if the Brattle management will let you pitch a pup tent in front of the screen. Wow, that would be a blast.
