BostonNOW: Now With 20% Less Wilpers
The archive of today's NewsroomNOW video is now available on the Web. Well, the first six minutes or so is available in the archive version (we're not sure if there's more that we're missing). The editorial meeting for the BostonNOW free daily tab has been open to the public and available on the Web since the paper's launch. They've touted it as an innovative way to connect with their readers and potential blogging contributors. This morning, the familiar face of John Wilpers wasn't at the head of the table chairing the meeting.
The Track ladies dished the dirt that Wilpers is no longer editor-in-chief at the paper; rather, he'll be doing some consulting work on the blog aspect of the paper and, as the Track reports, he'll be working on the NOW expansion plans. Wilpers exits his EIC role with BostonNOW after 8 months, but he's got newspaper history in Boston. He worked for the TAB/Community Newspaper Company in the early nineties, he also spent some time with AOL's Digital City Boston (aka cityguide), and he was involved in the blossoming of the Metro as a free weekday paper in Boston. His duties at BostonNOW will be assumed by two managing editors – as we understand it a less impressive title in the newspaper biz. While we don't know too much about newcomers Mitch Lipka and Ann Kennedy, we have heard rumors that they won't have the local ties that Wilpers brought to the paper. Does this mean we'll see more national/world coverage coming out of BostonNOW in coming months? Hopefully it doesn't mean we'll see any less of bunnies with saws on the cover.
