Three people were shot yesterday afternoon in Dorchester on Morse Street. One of them was shot in the chest, and the other two have "non-life-threatening" injuries.
Police commissioner Ed Davis referred to a "gang motivation" behind the shooting and that the incident might be tied to guns that the police seized on Wednesday night. The Herald interviewed people in the neighborhood who were more specific, and they said it had something to do with a Lucerne Street gang beef.
While reporters were catching reactions from local residents, the Globe caught an interesting exchange between city councilor Charles Yancey and a hairstylist. When he tried to reassure her, she told him, "The only time I see you here is when you're running for reelection."
Standing ovation, anyone? That line should be painted on banners and draped in front of the office doors of every elected official who has been ducking this issue for way too long.
Later last night, a 17-year-old was shot multiple times in Roxbury. The BPD says that the injuries are "non-life-threatening." Then, early this morning, a 25-year-old male and a 28-year-old male were shot on Parker Street. Like all the others above, they escaped mortal injury, but the weekend isn't starting off well.
--The violence wasn't limited to Boston. In Brockton, a man allegedly shot his girlfriend to death early Thursday morning. Amaral Montrond, 29, is accused of shooting 27-year-old Carlita Chaney, the mother of his children, to death. His motive may have been that he was getting revenge on her after she turned him in to police for a shooting he may have committed last year. He was out on bail when Chaney was killed.
All charges alleged until proven under law.
