Boston Blotter: Another Chapter in the Nefarious Exploits of Dr. Sharpe

081907_twisted.jpg--More cross-dressing criminals! Dr. Richard Sharpe, the dermatologist who liked to play dress-up and who shot his wife to death in 2000, is going on trial Monday for trying to hire a hit man to kill the prosecutor who sent him to jail. Sharpe thought that if he could take out Essex County prosecutor Robert Weiner, he might have a shot at an appeal.

This isn't the first time crazy thoughts have floated through Sharpe's head. Court TV has an entire section of its site devoted to the nefarious exploits of Dr. Sharpe, and a true-crime book has been written about his life. At one point, Sharpe stabbed his wife in the head with a fork and also stole her birth control pills to gain more womanly curves. Sharpe pled insanity after he killed his wife, and his behavior sure looks insane, but that defense didn't fly, and he was sentenced to life in prison. That didn't stop him from trying to place a hit on Weiner from the inside - which means the book will need an update.

--Update on the fatal shooting of a 65-year-old woman in Everett: As we said earlier, police rounded up her husband, who was armed to the teeth, at a liquor store. Turns out that George Philbrook was actually Dorothy Philbrook's ex-husband. They had divorced years ago but were still living together.

--A commuter train hit and killed 63-year-old Russell Smith in Lynn yesterday. That's terrible, but the people driving the train didn't notice that it hit anything. The train after the one that killed Smith happened to notice the body and called the authorities.

--A boy from Fall River died yesterday from injuries sustained after he fell into a sand hopper at a concrete company on Friday. 9-year-old Codey Duclos is the second child to die on the grounds of the same concrete company.
