Flagrant Foul, Part One: The Enterprising Linebacker
Given the sports-crime incidents of the week, here's Bostonist's answer to Matt Taibbi's Sports Blotter - the Flagrant Foul column! Part two will appear in a few hours.
Jose Offerman isn't the only sports figure cruising his way toward Matt Taibbi's Sports Blotter. A former Boston College linebacker has his eye on that Blotter. A former Boston College linebacker didn't make the NFL cut when he went to the Washington Redskins training camp, so he found an alternate career – dealing drugs. He was arraigned recently for trafficking cocaine and possession with intent to distribute.
Raymond Henderson, 23 years old, was living in Brighton and had apparently transformed himself from a star player to a star drug dealer. Not that we're praising dealers, but Henderson displayed surprising depth and breadth when it comes to dealing. He was a one-man drug band who peddled cocaine, pot, and mushrooms. He was arrested back in May for his prodigious quantities of mind-altering substances. He made bail for that offense, but he got caught speeding, and his bail has been revoked.
When they arrested him the first time, the DA Office press release described everything Henderson had in his pad: "In the search that followed, officers recovered a large bag of cocaine; 10 bags of marijuana in various sizes; two bags containing a substance believed to be psychoactive mushrooms; several bags containing marijuana residue; a large quantity of cocaine paraphernalia including razor blades, bags, and spoons with cocaine residue; and approximately $3600 in cash."
Phew. Henderson was a busy guy. Besides his alleged drug trade, Henderson had other aspirations, and he had been hired as a football coach at North Quincy High. Although high-school students would have been thrilled to have him, that offer is off the table.
