--The BPD announced that it is increasing foot patrols by adding 54 officers to the street beat. Commish Ed Davis held a conference yesterday at Codman Square.
Right now, 18 beat officers total cover downtown, Grove Hall, and Bowdoin-Geneva. Here is a full list of where the new beat officers will patrol:
Eagle Hill (A-7/ East Boston), two teams in Codman Square (B-3 Mattapan/Dorchester), Morton Ave and Blue Hill Avenue (B-3 Mattapan/Dorchester), Egleston Square (E-13/ Jamaica Plain), Blue Hill/Talbot Ave/Franklin Field (B-3/ Mattapan/Dorchester), Lenox/1850 Washington (D-4/ South End), Dudley/Orchard Park (B-2/Roxbury) and an additional team will be added to Downtown Crossing/Boston Common/Theater District (A-1/Downtown).
--The new beat officers will be busy. Last night, someone got shot in the calf and another individual was pistol-whipped in Roxbury. Also last night, in Dorchester, a man was allegedly stabbed by 43-year-old Richard Almond, who ran home after the incident. Manly, he is! Firefighters had to bust their way inside, and Almond was arrested.
--In Cape Cod yesterday, a retired professor of social work from the University of Connecticut was hit and killed by a car. Albert Alissi was going on an early morning walk when Todd Jenkins hit him. Jenkins' car then hit a fire hydrant. The water caused a sinkhole, and the car fell inside. Jenkins told police that the sun blinded him and led to the accident.
--David Scondras, former Boston city councilor, pled guilty yesterday to charges relating to his attempt to have sex with a 15-year-old boy. While cruising on the web, he arranged a rendezvous with the boy in a Lawrence parking lot, only he was met by police instead. Scondras served the city between 1983 and 1993. Now he must register as a sex offender.
All charges alleged until proven under law. Yes, that is Michael Jackson's Beat It CD Single cover.
