<p>There's a distinction to be drawn when discussing discipline.

In a legal context, we all know the drill. Innocent until proven guilty, etc.

Being a prominent athlete in a sports-crazed town brings other rules that apply. These kids, and they are kids, have to be careful in 2007. They're going to be targets for all kinds of attention, good and bad, and must be aware of it. Assuming the BC kids broke no laws, a bar fight with a drunk is a bad idea.

They shouldn't be kicked off the team or lose a scholarship. Missing a game might be a proper response to help maintain team discipline and underscore an important lesson.

The best solution could be for the players to regulate their own conduct.

What would Fr. Monan do?</p>

<p>"Our troll spends so much time demolishing me that he completely forgot what his problem with the article was. Mission accomplished."
One last time, dude. You're a bit presumptuous including yourself with people who can actually write.I used the word "pinhead" (singular, not plural as you stated)deliberately, referring to ONE person. Guess who? I was referring to ONE piece by ONE writer whose work is probably much better on most occasions. Somehow YOU are the one who introduced xenophobia to the discussion.YOU are the one insulted by my response to someone other than yourself. If you're that desperate for friends, I suggest volunteering at a non-profit. You'll meet a better class of people but they will demand a greater respect for FACTS than you appear to have at the moment. I will now state for the THIRD (and last) time, all I was saying is that jocks at BC are (unfortunately) not unique and that it is a good idea to get the facts before convicting them in the court of public opinion. Is that so friggin' tough to grasp? If you're looking for a straw man to salve your weak ego, it ain't me, Skippy. (One bit of advice from someone who is probably older than you-when you find yourself in a deep hole, STOP DIGGING).Over and out.

<p>Maybe if we as a society didn't actually treat jocks and sports like they were the most important thing in the world, these kids would not have the ego or the steroids running through them. Sports should be played, not watched. Quit sitting around and paying attention to college football and find something better to do... the programmer was in the right so lets all just get over our commenting antics. If you are around when a meat head tries to have a pissing contest, help the little guy out. Fights like this happen for absolute idiots are plenty and they get off knowing they are of dominant size. Whoop de ff'n do... if that's their big kick, let's open a zoo where the public can stare at these animals and let them flex their muscles for the masses. Should we get leashes to? Silly angry kids...</p>

<p>Wow, looks like Bostonist has a new provincial xenophobe who believes that he is sole owner and proprietor of Eastern Massachusetts. Not only the Bostonist writers but its readers are, according to Rick, pinheaded outsiders. Thanks for welcoming me to "your" state, though if I'm a newcomer I wonder how it is that I'm living in my mom's basement. The peons will try to scratch together our feudal dues to your fiefdom and send them along, m'lord. Our troll spends so much time demolishing me that he completely forgot what his problem with the article was. Mission accomplished.</p>

<p>Wow, hey Mac,
a. did I say I went to BC? (Actually it was BU).
b. not sure if they are "notorius" but jocks in general, (e.g. hockey, football, basketball) have gotten preferential treatment for years. This incident is far from unique. Fact is, if these guys did everything alleged, they should get jail time. If you had spent any time in the place, however, you would know that the problem lies mostly with a part-owner with a history of being overly aggressive, not "boys gone wild". Get out of Mom's basement once in a while.
c. if failing to discipline the guys prior to the facts being determined is wrong, so be it. I'm thinking Durham, NC might be more to your liking, given recent events?
d. nowhere did I say that BC athletes are any more or less prone to misbehavior than jocks from BU, UConn, UNH, URI, etc. That's the whole point. It's just that as a Div. I school, people REALLY like to see them fail. Goes with the territory. If this incident costs any of these ADULTS money, nobody forced them to go out that night. If you think BU hockey players are any different, you ARE from out of town.
e. A person using spell-check and Google can "parlay" their time into a knowlege of the English language. Jesus, what a pinhead.

<p>If the software programmer had gotten in a couple of good swings, BC would probably have just cleared him off their schedule, like they did when the Holy Cross basketball games got a wee bit too competitive for them.</p>

<p>Let me correct both of you on a couple of matters.

Mac, Rick never said BU had a football team. He referred to ''...player from BC or BU...'' We know the BC players in question were football players so it's not an unfair inference that he meant BU had a football team. It's also not entirely accurate. Give Rick a break, he's probably a triple Eagle and already lathered up.

Now, Rick, three generations of my family have gone to BC and cheered for their teams. BC jocks are notorius for drunkeness, boorish behavior and lawbending. This includes the three major sports. Most of the BC players behaving badly is under the radar. You'd recognize the names, Rick.

DeFilippo is a good guy. I'm sure he has 'advised' Jagodzinski to revisit his lack of discipline. Jagodzinski must remember these are kids and not grown men with extra cash to burn. He'll catch on. Dontcha miss coach O'Brien?

Consider this for Mr. Cherlius...BC lineman are well regarded in NFL circles so this incident could impact draft round selection and a contract.

<p>Wow, Rick, looks like you started your weekend drinking early. To spare the members of Bostonist from having to drub some sense into you, let me do it myself.

First of all, I'm surprised to hear the news from a self-proclaimed Boston expert that BU has a football team. I just didn't know that.

Second, I don't see where your allegation of a "cheap shot" at the new BC coach comes from. All the article states is that he's not disciplining the two players who broke someone's neck. Maybe just pointing out that fact without vitriol is enough to make the coach look like a jerk. Well, it should. I mean, three s**tfaced human blimps pounding on some guy sitting at a bar? What cowards. No, I don't care whether the victim should have moved or not; that's no excuse for almost killing a man. Those guys shouldn't be playing for BC, whose athletic program has had enough embarrassments of late.

Third, learn to spell "parley." You're just betraying the weakness of your BC education.</p>

<p>Your comments are moronic. It is no news that at most sports bars in Boston, a_____player from BC or BU is a target for drunks. That the players themselves are sometimes the drunks is unfortunate but true. So what? Welcome to the USA. Same thing happens in every college town. Wanna talk about cheap shots? How about the one you took at a guy who has yet to coach a game at BC? If the owner of a bar, (whether or not he's a cop)asks you to move, YOU MOVE! Since you appear to be new in town, I suggest you read up on Gene DeFillippo, the AD. The guy is a class act. If someone affiliated with BC f__ks up, they will be dealt with. If you hope to parlay this blog into that big job at the Phoenix, you'll have to do better than that.
