Sports Redux: How the Red Sox Got Their Groove Back

285058134_f30521799f_m.jpgOh no, there's another Red Sox pitcher song - and it's only a matter of time before we see Jerry Remy rocking the air guitar to the new tune.

Fresh on the heels of Daisuke Matsuzaka's "Gyroball," the Boston Red Sox pitching staff brings you "Okajima, Oki-Doki."Okajima translator Jeff Yamaguchi admitted recently that the song, well, kind of sucks when you first listen to it, but it will needle its place into your heart if you give it some time.

As it turns out, while we were watching the rains come down in Chicago on Thursday night, the Red Sox were rocking out to the Oki-Doki. Lowell, Youkilis, and Ortiz are among the Sox reportedly raving about the song after a big rain delay dance party on Thursday.

We're open to the idea of adopting the song as a sister song to "Tessie" and "Dirty Water" if it keeps the Sox in a winning frame of mind. The day after the dance party, Boston neatly shut down the ChiSox in a day night doubleheader - 11-3 and 10-1. Josh Beckett became the first MLB pitcher this season to win 16 games with the daytime victory and Curt Schilling enjoyed big fourth and fifth innings to earn his eighth win of the season.

The Yanks lost, the Sox showed strength on offense and defense and our warm fuzzy feeling was intensified by no other than White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, who said of the matchups "Twelve hours of my life I wasted and I'm never going to get them back."

Huzzah!

-- We'd been hearing for weeks now that the third exhibition game is the important one, the one that shows the world what kind of a football team New England has. On Friday night, the Pats brought the goods and crushed the Panthers, 24-7, during play in North Carolina. New daddy Tom Brady was back in time to lead the team, going 17 for 22 for 167 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

-- It would have added an extra layer of romantic drama, the return of a veteran pursuing one last shot at championship immortality. But Reggie Miller finally decided that he's not going to lace up' the ol' high tops for a Celtics title run. Never, ever, ever, he says. Oh well.
