Boston Blotter: Don't Mess With Deval's Turf
--Remember that little incident on the Common in which two people were found shot near the McDonald's on Sunday night? Well, it left a bullethole in a State House window that was near governor Deval Patrick's suite. A spokeswoman for the governor said that he was "deeply disturbed" and "particularly upset," which seems to us to be code for "royally pissed off." Patrick likes to keep his stuff nice - not to mention safe.
Five men were arrested after the incident, and they were packing a 9mm that may be linked to the shooting. What do you want to bet that Patrick and Commish Ed Davis had a little chat yesterday?
--A shocking crime unfolded in Norton this weekend when 39-year-old Robert McDermott shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, shot her two teen daughters, and then went to the railroad tracks, where he shot himself.
The daughters were each shot in the head and are in critical condition. McDermott didn't even spare the family dog - he shot the dog, too. The ex-girlfriend had filed a restraining order against McDermott two years ago. The Globe quoted one neighbor as saying McDermott was a "whacko."
--The burglar who was caught in medias res in Jamaica Plain on Sunday and subsequently jumped from a fourth-floor window onto a concrete courtyard has died of his injuries.
The victims of the burglary described the robber as crazy because their apartment was across from a police station. He also punched a hole in the wall and smashed dishes.
--If you weren't enthused about the RMV before, you definitely won't be now. An RMV employee in Milford is accused of stealing $76,000 from the RMV.
--A late addition to the blotter: Two men held up a check-cashing place in Jamaica Plain this morning. A holdup isn't unusual, but they made off with a lot of money – "tens of thousands," according to a report.
Bostonist's favorite image of Deval Patrick. He looks calm there, but don't mess with the State House.
