Boston Blotter: Some Officers Work Harder Than Others
--Not every day is a crimefighting day, at least not in Methuen last week. A sergeant for the Methuen PD was on duty - while watching the Patriots play a preseason game on TV. One could argue that it was fine if nothing was happening, but other officers joined him, and only two officers were left on duty. They must have been rookies.
The scene could have come right out of Super Troopers - the chief noticed "too many cruisers" outside the station. The chief has since removed all televisions from the station.
--Officers in East Boston had a handful on their hands yesterday when a garden-variety drug deal took place. The deal happened in a car, and two men emerged. Drug unit members tried to stop them when one said to the officers, "You ain't no cop." At that moment, the police proved that they were indeed cops.
It doesn't stop there. Officers tried to track the driver of the drugmobile and found him parked in a Burger King lot. (What is with fast food joints being parlors of vice? First the shooting at the McD's, and now BK!) The perp, Roy Febo of Revere, threw his car into reverse and hit the officer while trying to peel out of the lot. He was later apprehended while trying to ditch his car.
--The Feds arrested members of the MS-13 gang, which has members all over the United States, in a massive raid that took place throughout Greater Boston. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were involved. Undocumented immigrants were jittery because of ICE's involvement, but a spokesman said the raids are focused on MS-13.
--Follow-Up: The boa constrictor that turned up in a Crown Royal bag in the North End during the St. Anthony's Feast will soon be safe and sound with its owner. We would have said "safe and sound in the arms of its owner," but it might not be that good of an idea to get close to a boa constrictor. The boa constrictor's name is "Jake," his owner is Jimmy Badolato of East Boston, and Badolato is very, very happy to have his pet back. Jake is probably none the worse for wear but a little dazed from his adventure. Badolato carries Jake in the Crown Royal bag – why not?
Promo shot of Super Troopers enjoying themselves.
