Two Firefighters Die in West Roxbury Restaurant Fire

082007_firefighters.GIFBoston firefighters Paul Cahill, of Scituate, and Warren Payne, of Canton, died last night in a fire at the Tai Ho Mandarin and Cantonese Restaurant in West Roxbury. At least 10 firefighters were injured, two critically. The West Roxbury Transcript reported that the critically injured firefighters are on life support.

The fire began at 9:00 pm, and 100 firefighters responded. The fire was so strong that, according to reports, flames at least 15 feet high rose above the building, and an AC unit on the roof fell into the building. The AC unit weighed 3 tons.

Fire chief Kevin MacCurtain said that members of Engine 30, Ladder 25, were the first to respond to the Tai Ho fire, and they were the ones who sustained the most serious injuries.

The Transcript described the fire as a "grease fire," and the resulting heavy smoke disoriented the firefighters.

i feel sorry for those firefighters but i also fell sorry for there families

Why wasn't an infrared camera used in the West Roxbury fire? It could have detected the extent of the fire, which the firefighters apparently believed was limited to the kitchen of the restaurant.
