MittWatch: Sex Scandals Never Happen at a Good Time, Do They?
Former Massachusetts governor and current presidential aspirant Mitt Romney is probably off somewhere kicking himself right now. One of his biggest supporters, Senator Larry Craig, a Republican from Idaho, allegedly engaged in "lewd conduct in a men's room" at the Minneapolis airport. We'll let you use your own imagination - just see our past post about individuals who are "Lewd at Logan."
On paper, Craig was an ideal match for Romney in the nonsexual sense. He was conservative and he had voted against gay marriage. But, if the charges are true, then Craig apparently thought that the rules he was endorsing didn't apply to him.
Since the allegations went public, Craig officially cut ties between himself and the Romney campaign and resigned as Romney's Senator liaison, and Romney couldn't get away from Craig fast enough. Team Romney took down a video endorsement Craig did for Romney that was on YouTube. Of course, the teeming millions of the Internet put the video right back up again.
Then Ana Marie Cox reported that someone on Team Romney went into archived press released and deleted all mentions of Craig. Romney even did the ultimate to reassure his conservative supporters and totally break up with Craig – he compared Craig to Bill Clinton.
Romney's Achilles Heel is his team's apparent inability to run background checks. His security guys fancied themselves police officers and ladies' men, and now Senator Larry Craig turns out to fancy himself quite the toilet stall stud.
All charges alleged until proven under law. Official image of Larry Craig. If the charges are true, why didn't he just come out and save everyone a lot of trouble?

He pled guilty. I think we can drop the ''allegation'' appelation. This is a non-issue if he gets a lawyer and goes with not guilty. The gay/hypocrisy angle is a semantic game.
Mitt's probably glad it's not a multiple wife issue.
