Howie Carr, Herald columnist and talking head, might be raking in even more money once he goes to radio station WTKK when his WRKO contract ends. If Carr goes to WTKK, he might make $7 million smackers over five years if he meets ratings targets. Of course, he has to solve his legal brawl with WRKO first.
But is he worth it? Joe Keohane notes the repetitive nature of Howie Carr's columns, which are the textual equivalent of turning the screech of semi-righteous indignation up to 11. He writes of Carr's column on the Larry Craig scandal, "It makes me wonder whether he’ll continue to do these autopilot jobs after he starts his new, $7 million-plus radio gig."
The contract states that Carr has to meet targets in order to get the goodies, so Carr might have to exert himself. Conservative radio hosts always have an audience, but the whole Imus incident makes it a little harder for these hosts to push the envelope to drive up ratings. Carr might have his work cut out for him.
Carr is also number three on the Bostonians We Love to Hate list. Even if he doesn't get all those bonuses, being hated is apparently a lucrative business.
