Back-to-Back Jack: Marathon Reading of 'On the Road'

082107_kerouac_working.jpgThe Kerouac marathon will run from 10 am to 10 pm on Wednesday, September 5. The event takes place at Olive That & More in Lowell. It's free.

Break out the bongo drums! Serious fans of Jack Kerouac's On the Road are engaging in a 12-hour reading of the book on September 5, which is the 50th anniversary of the book's publication.

Local poets, teachers, dee jays, fans, and actors will flock to Lowell, Kerouac's hometown, to celebrate the book. Readers include Dave McLaughlin, who made On Broadway, prof/poet/classical critic Lloyd Schwartz, and poet/Dig writer Charles Coe. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Each reader has been assigned a chapter, or a portion of a chapter if it's especially long. Since the event is so long and 48 readers will be taking part, we've included the full list of readers after the jump if you want to see a specific person or hear a single chapter but don't feel like devoting 12 hours to the event. Depending on the artistic license of the readers, don't expect everything to start on time.
