Stuck Between Stations: Dennis & Callahan Are Back on WEEI
--Sports radio hosts Dennis & Callahan have signed a five-year contract to stay on at WEEI. The station had locked them out during the negotiations.
In the midst of the dispute between Dennis & Callahan and WEEI, news came out that Dennis & Callahan might move from WEEI (850 AM) to WCRB (99.5 FM). That would be an interesting move given that WCRB is a classical station.
But, fear not, classical fans. Program Director Mark Edwards responded to an e-mail from Bostonist: "WCRB is to remain classical."
As part of the entire shake-up, Entercom, which owns WEEI, now owns 50% of WCRB. The other half is owned by Nassau Broadcasting.
--Former WBZ host Paul Sullivan has died. He was only 50 years old. Recently, he and his family made the difficult decision to stop treatment for brain cancer. A statement from the family said that they planned to "focus on his comfort and quality of life," and he went to Lowell for hospice care. Jon Keller has posted many kind words in Sullivan's memory.
--In WBZ television news, WBZ TV has hired a new news director - Jeff Kiernan. Kiernan was news director at WCCO in Minneapolis, and he'll start later in September.
