Three Peaches Plus One State Treasurer Equals A Lot of Trouble at Logan
Massachusetts State Treasurer Tim Cahill thinks he got a raw deal from customs officials at Logan when his family returned to the country from a trip to Italy.
Customs was not amused when they found Cahill's daughter with three peaches, and these three little peaches have grown into a large dispute.
Cahill told the media, "If this is the way the federal government treats people when they come into this country, it’s distressing." Has this guy never flown before? And how did he expect to be treated after his kid brought fresh food into the country, which most seasoned travelers know you should not do? They do ask you if you have items to declare when you fly in.
Customs detained the Cahills for an hour. They got off lucky, frankly. Some Americans get put on the no-fly list, and they don't know why and the TSA won't tell them. And Cahill is complaining because Customs agents actually had a reason to detain him? By the way, Dan Kennedy points out that, yes siree, customs had legitimate reasons to detain Cahill and his family.
But what irritated us was what else Cahill said:
“It didn’t appear to me that they knew who I was nor cared."
Sir, you are state treasurer, not Secretary of the Treasury. And Logan customs would probably detain him, too.

Reminds me of Marilyn Devaney... except he didn't throw any peaches!

No, they probably knew exactly who you were and still didn't care.
