Election Day: State Senator Election for Middlesex, Suffolk, and Essex

091107_flaherty.jpgToday, some Massachusetts residents will be voting on a replacement for State Senator Jarrett Barrios, who left the Senate to make some bucks working for Blue Cross. The following candidates for his position are all Democrats:

Timothy Flaherty - Former assistant DA and son of Charlie Flaherty, who used to be speaker of the Massachusetts House. Definitely has the most badass campaign photo. Also has the most endorsements (Globe, Cambridge Chronicle, Blue Mass Group).
Anthony Galluccio - Cambridge city councilor and former mayor of Cambridge. The problem? He can't drive and has drunk driving convictions on his record. He also caused a four-car crash in Boston, but there wasn't enough evidence for a DUI.
Paul Nowicki - Chelsea city councilor. Boxers like him.
Jeff Ross - He used to work for Dianne Feinstein and bills himself as the "progressive Democrat."

No Republicans are running, so whoever wins this election takes it all.

And mark your election calendars - a primary for the 1st Suffolk on Tuesday, September 25. Jimbo, aka the Hubster, has all the information you could hope for on the candidates.

Image of Tim Flaherty from his website. That doesn't imply an endorsement - but that photo is pretty bold. One of his campaign promises should be that he'll look that way all the time if elected.
