Beat the Press: Galluccio Staffers vs. Cambridge Chronicle?

091207_beat_the_press.JPGSometimes you think that a story is over and done. Take yesterday's election for the State Senate seat vacated by Jarrett Barrios. Cambridge politician Anthony Galluccio won. End of story, right?

Well, David Harris at the Cambridge Chronicle blogged yesterday that a Chronicle reporter received an unnecessarily rude reception at the Galluccio office:

Staffers busily escorted the reporter out the door and… locked it behind her. Galluccio was not in his office at the time. More mature political staffers would welcome the media attention because they recognize that the press represents the people. If elected, we hope that Gooch and his staff will behave in a more professional manner.

Perhaps Galluccio's staff didn't like it that the Chronicle called him "Gooch." Perhaps they were also upset that the Chronicle endorsed Galluccio's rival, Tim Flaherty.

We e-mailed Galluccio's team office and asked them for their side of the story, but we didn't get a response.

From what I understand, a reporter and photographer from The Chronicle bounced into the campaign office like they owned the place and started chatting up people as the staff was trying to answer phones, record vote tallies and then enter everything into a spreadsheet. They were asked to leave so critical work could be done without two kids distracting the grown-ups.

My guess is that the door was locked, so the work could go on without having to post someone at the door to keep non-campaign people from wandering in and out.

As for sour grapes, if I remember the story correctly, when the candidate the fox endorsed lost the primary, the fox walked away saying, "Ah, the grapes were probably sour anyway."
