What, the mayor leaves town and stuff goes nuts? Ever since Commish Ed Davis shook up his staff without Suffolk DA Dan Conley's consultation, the DA's office and the BPD haven't been the best of pals. Now, those relations are even frostier because Conley decided that the State Police - not the BPD - will be in charge of investigating any MBTA homicides.
Conley says he's doing this to even everyone's workload. The BPD has been busy lately. But one detective already said, "It's a slap in the face to every detective."
Whoever investigates the homicides doesn't really matter as long as perps are caught, but the BPD and the DA's office - or, at the very least, their leadership - are exerting an awful lot of energy trying to one-up each other. Conley had once said that he could replace the BPD homicide unit with state police.
Davis has even more to worry about than Conley. He has decided to fire four police officers who are accused of taking advantage of the detail system. Sgt. Jacqueline Creaven, Lt. Haseeb Hosein, Lt. Timothy Kervin and Lt. Ghassoub Frangie will face hearings for, in the words of the BPD, "for infractions including untruthful reporting of hours, performing details that conflicted with a scheduled tour of duty and receiving details through unauthorized means."
