The South End Open Studios will take place this weekend - Saturday, September 15, and Sunday, September 16, from 11 am to 6 pm.
This year's South End Open Studios will be satisfying all your art cravings over the weekend. You can see a full list of participants at the United South End Artists, Inc. website. Some of the more eye-catching projects include Katie DiChiara's "fabulous funky artificial hair sculptures designed to enlighten." Beyond sculpture, painting, and drawings, you'll find jewelry and wearable art galore, which will help you look different from the H&M clones.
It's too bad that the mayor is out of town because he might want to attend the show at the Pinkcomma Gallery at Wareham and Albany (look for the big pink comma). Inside, five design firms offer their own ideas on how to improve city hall - and none of the ideas involve moving it as the mayor seems so amped up to do. Their designs are exciting, and those who work in and deal with city hall should go to see what city hall can be if people don't give up on it.
Last year, our comment thread asked if there would be free booze and nibbles. In our past experience with open studios (not just in the South End), the phrase "open studio" always has the connotation of booze and nibbles. Please let us know if we are mistaken. Speaking of booze and nibbles, a free shuttle bus will be picking people up every 15 to 20 minutes at Clarendon and Columbus near the Back Bay T stop in case you get too full or woozy.
