Boston Blotter: Do the Police Have Time for Crime?

crime_scene_tape.jpg--The Commish Ed Davis - DA Dan Conley back-and-forth continues. Davis put out a three-page letter explaining why the State Police shouldn't be working on MBTA or transit-related homicides. The State Police doesn't appear to give a crap whether they are working on those homicides or not. But the transit police chief has taken Conley's side and said they would like state police on those cases.

Of course, the time it took Conley to develop this plan, and the time it took Davis to get indignant and write his letter is a long time away from solving homicide cases.

--Someone got shot in the chest last night on Rosedale Street in Dorchester. The person is now in serious but stable condition at the hospital. In another incident from yesterday's BPD blotter, a man was stabbed in the side near Blue Hill Avenue yesterday afternoon. A fight in front of a Stop & Shop got violent. The victim is in the hospital, and police have arrested Rafael Milan for the crime.

--This is out of Conley and Davis' purview, but two young men from were beaten up by 20 people - 20 people! - in East Cambridge on Monday night. Both men were beaten until they were unconscious. Two Good Samaritans drove up, the crowd dispersed, and the Good Samaritans took the men to the hospital. No arrests have been made but surely it can't be hard to find somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody else if the beating involved 20 people.

The Sate Police have plenty of time to sit in cars doing overtime detail work. Other states use flag men, but not us! Keeping us safe, bu sitting in their cars with the engine running.

I mean to say I called the Cambridge Police, not 911... saves about 20 seconds if you're calling from a cell phone :-)

I was one of the people who called 911 - I posted comments on the townonline.com website.
