Tonight: Underworld at Bank of America Pavilion
Underworld will be performing at Bank of America Pavilion tonight. Doors are at 6:30 pm, and the show is at 7:30 pm. With John Digweed, DJ Dave Ralph.
Last night Bostonist was out at the Middlesex Lounge listening to local DJs spin some of the best minimal and house that's out right now. Though the room was dimly lit and the atmosphere was very chill, the spectrum of sobriety went from stone cold to completely wastey-face. Walking out and saying goodbyes to Andre Obin, an electronic producer who is also one half of the local duo Matters & Dunaway, Bostonist yelled "See you at Underworld! Woo!" Suddenly, a handful of people that were outside turned their heads. "Oh! Underworld? You're going? Me too!"
These were total strangers, but it's just the kind of reaction one could expect toward Underworld. One of electronic music's most internationally influential acts, Underworld has reached the grand status: touring infrequently, having a coveted discography, and electronic fans eating up anything new that is released. Also, due to the fame that arrived with the explosion of the film Trainspotting and "Born Slippy" in 1996, they're a name that is known amongst not just techno fans, but music fans...and that's the golden ticket.
October 16th marks the release of their latest studio album, Oblivion With Bells. This is their first in five years, actually. Already out on the radio and garnering large love amongst critics, fans and everyone in between, you can hear the first single, "Crocodile," off Pitchfork's premiere of the track here.
