Penalty Schmenalty: Belichick's Fine Is Tax Deductible

040807_belichick_sexy.jpgIf you've been worried about how New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is handling the fine handed down to him by the NFL for videotaping his opponents' signals, don't cry for him, Argentina. Not only did he hand the asses of the entire San Diego Chargers football team to Charger coach Norv Turner, the fine they gave him is tax-deductible.

A group of tax law professors determined that the fine qualified as "an ordinary and necessary business expense."

El Presidente at Barstool Sports sees a method to Belichick's madness: "And to be honest I’m still not ruling out that Belichick orchestrated this whole thing just to help get the Pats focused this year. He’s that brilliant."

We're not going to give Belichick that much credit, but we wouldn't be surprised if it occurred to him that he treat the fine as a business expense before the tax profs did. Now that he's got his finances straight, he can worry about what's important - winning games and wooing hot cougars.

But the Onion offers an interesting fantasy twist on what may have been caught on tape. Click through if you dare!
