Boston Legal: The 300-Pound Gorilla in the Courtroom
So many big court cases went down this week, so we're wrapping up the latest.
--The first witness testified Tuesday in the Franklin Park Zoo Amok Ape Trial, which will determine the amount that will be awarded to a 2-year-old girl was attacked by an ape in 2003. The girl's mother, Terrasita Duarte-Scott, is suing Zoo New England because her daughter was injured and probably has a flood of nightmares thanks to the episode.
Courtney Roberson, the babysitter for Nia Scott, testified that Little Joe the ape picked her up and grabbed the baby when they were in the Tropical Rainforest exhibit. Little Joe had escaped from his display quarters and decided to go on an adventure, and he was too fast for Roberson and Scott to get away. The zoo curator, Frederick Beall, said he still hadn't figured out how Little Joe escaped, which isn't exactly a vote of confidence for zoo management.
--The courts are trying to break through the "Stop Snitchin" shell by jailing a witness who refused to testify in the murder trial of John Gomes, who was convicted this week. Even though prosecutors won the conviction, they sent Jamil Sahle to prison for 90 days for not testifying. They had granted him immunity and flew him out from Oakland for the trial.
--A homeless man who stabbed another homeless man to death near the Holocaust Memorial has been given life in prison without parole. Joseph Lennon stabbed Roy Elliott when they got into an argument at Curley Memorial Plaza in 2006. According to a release from the DA's office, during the trial, prosecutors said that Lennon drove the knife so far into Elliott's back that it struck Elliott's chest plate.
--The suspect known as the "bad breath" rapist has just skipped town. Police are searching for Tuen K. “Dickie” Lee, who didn't show up for the last day of his trial at Norfolk Superior Court. Lee allegedly raped a co-worker, who identified him by his breath.
All charges alleged until proven under law. That goes for apes, too. Image of Mighty Joe Young from Amazon.
