7:00 pm to midnight

Thurston Moore
Remis Auditorium

We know that the Museum of Fine Arts is loaded. But what's even better is that they share the wealth. This Thursday, the museum is letting all college students in for free for College Night, which drew 3,200 students last year.

That same night, the museum will open the new exhibit Walk This Way, which pairs shoes with works of art. That strikes us as an odd combo, but we'll wait and see the results. It's not just an excuse to show off Manolos - a pair of Kevin Garnett's sneakers will also be on display.

If you're not especially into shoes, or even art, the MFA will have two DJs - one will spin dance music in the courtyard, and the other will play ambient music in the European Masters Gallery. If you're looking to pick up some grub, the MFA will be selling pizza at stations throughout the museum.

Bostonist's pick for the night is a performance by Thurston Moore, member of Sonic Youth, resident of Northampton, and founding father of alternative rock. He will be performing music from his first second solo album, Trees Outside the Academy. Although Moore and Sonic Youth release an album pretty much every year, Trees is his first solo record since 1995's Psychic Hearts.

So is it his first solo album or not?

psychic hearts was the first solo record...this would be #2

i just want to say thanks so much for pointing this out. the thurston moore show was really great--amazing to see a legend up close for free. some of the art was impressive as well. i would especially recommend the "shy boy, she devil, and isis" exhibit and the contemporary japanese art.
