While Improv Boston prepares to move from Inman Square to Central Square, a few of its members are keeping busy with the upcoming play Diptych.
Diptych is written by Improv Boston head writer/Phoenix writer Sara Faith Alterman and monologist David Mogolov. Steve Kleinedler, last seen on Bostonist helming the Define-a-Thon at the Brattle Theatre, is directing.
While there are two actors and two stories, the interaction between Alterman and Mogolov's characters is brief. We e-mailed Kleinedler and Mogolov to find out if the two would be storytelling in parallel or talking to each other. "They do converse *very* briefly," Kleinedler writes. "They're aware of each other's presence as they tell the story."
Mogolov adds another clue to the tale: "The two stories were written based on a common theme and a single line of dialogue that we agreed to before writing. Both stories quickly outgrew our theme, and a new shared theme unexpectedly emerged in each. You'll hear a key word to that theme in the first sentence of each story."
In sum, Diptych promises to offer two stories that will blend together in surprising ways that should live up to the promise on the show's MySpace page: "Storytelling the hell out of you this September and October."
No matter what happens in this show, we're betting that somebody's gonna get an ass-whuppin'. Image from Diptych's mySpace site.
