In its last installment, the internationally acclaimed reading series Four Stories addressed faraway places; this time, it's all about two subjects close to everyone's heart: love and money. While some of us may focus more on one than the other, either love--of a person or a passion, returned or unrequited--or money--having it or not having it--is usually at the center of most lives. And certainly we've all had some broken hearts and unpaid bills in our day in addition to the too-perfect romances and unexpected bonus checks. Monday's Four Stories is titled "Love & Money: Tales of Making It, Having It, and Losing It."
The four writers sharing their tales have a broad range of experiences with the cute and the costly. From Kris Frieswick, who has actually written for much respected money magazine The Economist, to Michael Lowenthal, whose work Charity Girl conjures up images of (gasp!) giving away money (or something else...) instead of keeping it, the writers have had a broad range of experiences with wallets and wailing, money markets and marriage. Jake Halpern, a well-traveled essayist and author of the "Breakout Book" Braving Home and Fame Junkies, and WHDH's Hank Phillippi Ryan, a local favorite, round out the quartet of authors who'll make you laugh, cry, and wince over tales of spilled wine and thrown drinks, plummeting investment accounts, and windfalls from wealthy relatives.
Get ready to have the time of your life--and hopefully hear something that'll make you want to pick up a book or two--at Four Stories. The reading will also feature the smooth sounds of guest DJ Michael Borum. As a bonus, you can win free drinks by asking the authors clever questions (winner selected by Four Stories founder and sometime reader Tracy Slater). Literature, food, drink, and music--what more could you ask for? Oh, yeah--a little bit of love and money.
