Watson Is Public-Radio Talent Contest Champ

092107_public_radio_talent_quest.pngBostonist sends a hearty congratulations to Rebecca Watson, of Brookline, for winning the Public Radio Talent Quest. Watson will have the opportunity to produce a pilot to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Watson was one of the top three winners out of 1,500 contestants. She joins Al Letson, of Jacksonville, FL, and Glynn Washington, of Oakland, CA. Weekend America did an interview with all three.

Although three people won, Watson came in first, and deservedly so. She had a professional delivery and a fun topic. To Bostonist, her submission sounded just as good, if not better, than what usually goes up on NPR.

Her show will be based on her blog, skepchick.org, which follows Watson's adventures debunking various myths. It's like "Mythbusters" for the Ira Glass crowd.

Pity it was a competition that used illegal overseas voters and people on the SGU blog claiming that they'd used scripts and multiple accounts to get her through. Not how a science show should start.
