What with the Red Sox savoring victory and rallies raging at City Hall Plaza, the New England Film and Video Festival planned the opening night for its 32nd year perfectly. On Thursday, the NEFVF will kick off with the documentary Play-by-Play Men and the Art of the Perfect Call, which begins at 7:00 pm Thursday night at Coolidge Corner Theatre.
Sometimes, it's not the players who make the game--it's the announcers. Play-by-Play Men, winner of the NEFVF's Best Documentary Feature prize, follows six broadcasters who tackle the enormous challenge of connecting you with the players on the field. One of the broadcasters is Joe Castiglione, who has been announcing for the Red Sox for 25 years.
Since the Red Sox currently have other important baseball-related plans, no one related to the franchise will be able to attend the screening--but that's more than fine with us if they're winning! Director Ziad Hamzeh and producer Karen Parker will be in attendance. The trailer is available at the NEFVF's schedule page.
