Boston Blotter: The Must-Have Housewarming Item
--Sure, people like to collect knickknacks. Salt-and-pepper shakers, Beanie Babies, comic books, parking meters. Yeah, parking meters, 123 of 'em, in fact. Thomas Gannon of Cambridge had cut the meters off poles all over Cambridge and Somerville. Police stumbled upon them when visiting Gannon for other reasons on Monday night.
Master of understatement and Cambridge PD spokesman Frank Pasquarello said, "This does seem to be odd." Indeed.
--Police arrested 17-year-old Derek Lodie, of Revere, for his alleged involvement in the murder of Officer Dan Talbot. Lodie is charged with being an "accessory before the fact to the crime of murder." The Herald had word that Lodie "ordered the execution" of Talbot.
--If you think you lost a credit card at Ballys, we think we know where it went. A group of local men were involved in a scheme to break into lockers at Bally Total Fitness gyms all over the country. After a man from Texas got the credit cards, Arthur Rizzo, 53, of East Boston, James DeSimone, 39, Donald DeSimone Sr., 70, Donald Desimone Jr., and Richard Regnetta, 47, all of Revere, went to the horse-racing track.
--A stabbing happened downtown last night at Kneeland and Utica. The BPD found a man bleeding from the stomach. Harlo Nixon, 25, of Boston, was arrested for the stabbing.
--Here's another case where the BPD headline says it all: "Boston Police 'To Catch a Predator.'" Calling Dateline NBC! In this local case, an alleged 28-year-old creep from Texas managed to finagle a meeting with a 13-year-old from Roslindale. The 13-year-old's mom called the cops, and they arrested Aaron Johnston.
--A brief item on the WCVB website mentioned that a bomb squad went to a home in Newton after a woman discovered grenades in her basement. This isn't exactly Blotter-worthy, but it raises a good question. What the hell was she doing with grenades in her basement?
--And the good news. Apparently the Red Sox Rally at City Hall Plaza didn't get too wild. Other than a little crowd-surfing in response to the Dropkick Murphys, things didn't get too crazy, and the BPD didn't arrest any revelers.
All charges alleged until proven under law. Image of a parking meter from Wikipedia.
