No Fun, Part 2: No More Hacks at MIT

100307-dean-wormer-2.jpgHarvard isn't the only school suffering from a No-Fun Mandate. Dean Wormer's twin brother--oops, MIT Chancellor Philip Clay--told those wacky MIT kids that he's not gonna put up with any more hacks (known as pranks in the MIT world).

This announcement won't go over well with students who think that MIT wasn't sufficiently supportive of student Star Simpson after she wore her "Socket to Me" sweatshirt to Logan Airport.

Clay didn't mention Simpson (and what she did wasn't a "hack"), but the Sodium Drop is still on everyone's minds.

To his credit, Clay specified that he was worried about hacks that hurt people--and the Sodium Drop, which may have injured volunteer crew cleaning up the Charles, falls in that category. Bostonist assumes that MIT's brilliant Halo/John Harvard hack does not.

That's not what he said at all!

He said "[they] have to re-embrace the true hacking tradition" by avoiding hacks that are dangerous or illegal and following the hackers own guidlines.
